Save Hampden Park and Old Town Children’s Centres
Eastbourne Labour have launched our campaign, alongside other Constituency Labour Party’s across East Sussex, to oppose the Tory County Council’s plan shut children’s centres, hitting the most vulnerable families in our town.
Tory plans will see Hampden Park Children’s Centre close, while Old Town Children’s Centre will follow if they cannot find alternative providers to run their service.
Sure Start and early years support was one of the crowning achievements of the last Labour government, with thousands of local children benefiting from excellent local services at our children’s centres, which also serve our most deprived areas.
To support our campaign please sign our new online petition here: and come along to our upcoming street stalls and Old Town campaign evening to help collect paper signatures for campaigning or let Jake know if you’d like to get involved in the campaign on 07800522343.
Save Our Walk-In Centre
East Sussex Save the NHS Campaign has been fighting against the Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) proposals to close the Walk-In Centre at Eastbourne station. Recent changes to primary care mean it is likely all of us will start finding it increasingly more difficult to access a GP appointment when we need it. The closure of our Walk-In Centre will inevitably lead to more people ending up in our already struggling A&E units – it would be a move that is both shortsighted and harmful.
There is an online petition which so far has attracted 1085 signatures, and more on paper. As our CCG is attempting to justify the closure on the basis of what they say we are all feeling about primary care, the campaign has also set up an online survey, as well as a paper survey. Looking at completed surveys so far, it would seem that the claims the CCG are making are indeed entirely wrong.
Petition sheets and survey sheets, as well as boxes for completed surveys, have been placed in various locations around the town, hopefully more locations will be found in the coming week. If anyone wishes to sign the paper petition or complete a survey they can go to :- The Kingfisher Pub in Langney Shopping Centre; The Filling Station in Hampden Park; Seaside Community Centre; Georgio’s Coffee Shop or the Walk-In Centre.
The campaign needs your help, so please sign the petition and complete a survey. But, if your workplace or community centre will take petitions, surveys and box then please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Further updates on the progress of the campaign will be posted on the website at https://esussexsavethenhs.wordpress.com
